What is a Date Difference Calculator?
A date difference calculator finds the time between two dates. It shows the difference in years, months and days, and also as total days, weeks, hours and weekdays. It is useful for project planning, leave and notice periods, warranty and loan dates, and countdowns to an event.

What does "Include End Date" do?
By default the calculator counts the days from the start date up to, but not including, the end date. Tick Include End Date to count the end date as a full day too. This is the right choice for leave, bookings and anything where both the first and last day count.

How to Use the Date Difference Calculator
- Select the Start Date, for example a project start date or a birth date.
- Select the End Date, for example today or a deadline.
- Tick Include End Date if the last day should be counted too.

What the results mean

Leap Year and Date Differences
A leap year has 29 days in February, so the same calendar dates can be a different number of days apart.

Things to Know
- Weekdays are not working days. Weekdays count Monday to Friday only. Public holidays and company holidays are not excluded.
- Hours are calculated from days. The calculator uses dates only, not clock times, so hours equal days × 24.
- Month-end dates. When the start day is later than the end day's month length, calculators can differ by a day or two. This calculator borrows the days of the month before the end date's month, the same way as our Age Calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate the days between two dates?
Select a start date and an end date, then click Calculate Difference. The tool shows the total days, plus the breakdown in years, months and days, weeks, hours and weekdays.
Does the calculation include the end date?
Only if you tick Include End Date. Without it, the days are counted from the start date up to the end date. With it, the end date is counted as one more day.
Can I calculate my age with this tool?
Yes. Enter your date of birth as the start date and today as the end date. For extra details such as your next birthday and the day you were born, use our Age Calculator.
What is the difference between weekdays and working days?
Weekdays are Monday to Friday. Working days are weekdays minus public holidays and any other days off, which this calculator does not know about.
Does it show hours, minutes or seconds?
It shows hours. Because you pick dates only, hours are the number of days multiplied by 24. For minutes, multiply the days by 1,440.
How does it handle leap years?
February 29 is counted in leap years, so the number of days between dates that include it is one higher.
What happens if the end date is before the start date?
The tool shows a message asking you to choose an end date that is on or after the start date.
