What is an Age Calculator?
An age calculator finds your exact age from your date of birth, in years, months and days. It is useful for government forms, school admissions, job applications and exam eligibility checks. Doing this by hand is error-prone because months have 28, 29, 30 or 31 days and leap years add an extra day.
Example
| Date of birth | 15 August 1995 |
|---|---|
| Age as on | 11 September 2026 |
| Exact age | 31 years, 0 months, 27 days |
| Total months | 372 |
| Total days | 11,350 |
| Day of birth | Tuesday |
| Next birthday | 15 August 2027 (338 days later) |
What this calculator shows
| Result | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Age | Completed years, months and days |
| Total Days | Number of days between your date of birth and the end date |
| Total Months | Completed months (years × 12 + months) |
| Next Birthday | The date of your next birthday |
| Day of Birth | The weekday you were born, for example Tuesday |
How to Use the Age Calculator
- Select your Date of Birth from the calendar, for example 10/05/1998.
- The end date is today by default. To check your age on a specific date, such as an exam cut-off date, choose it in the Age as on field.
- Click Calculate Age.
- See your exact age in years, months and days, plus total days, total months, your next birthday and the day of the week you were born.
How Is Age Calculated?
Age is not just a subtraction of years. The calculator subtracts the birth date from the end date in three steps: days, then months, then years. When a part is negative, it borrows from the next bigger unit: a month is borrowed for days (using the number of days in the month before the end date's month), and a year is borrowed for months.
Example: 25 December 2000 to 10 March 2026
| Step | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Days | 10 − 25 = −15. Borrow 1 month (February 2026 has 28 days): −15 + 28 | 13 days |
| Months | 3 − 12 = −9, minus 1 borrowed = −10. Borrow 1 year: −10 + 12 | 2 months |
| Years | 2026 − 2000 = 26, minus 1 borrowed | 25 years |
Age: 25 years, 2 months, 13 days. Different calculators use slightly different rules for month-end dates, so results can differ by a day or two in some cases.
Why Do You Need an Age Calculator?
| Use | Which date to use as the end date |
|---|---|
| Government job or exam eligibility | The age cut-off date given in the official notification |
| School admission | The cut-off date set by the school or board for that session |
| Insurance | The policy start date, using the insurer's age rule (see below) |
| Passport, pension, retirement planning | The date mentioned on the form or in the rules |
| Birthday posts and fun | Today's date |
Insurance: age last birthday vs age nearest birthday
| Rule | How it works | If you are 31 years 7 months |
|---|---|---|
| Age last birthday | Completed years only | 31 |
| Age nearest birthday | Rounded to the closest birthday | 32 |
Check which rule your insurer uses. This calculator shows completed years, which matches "age last birthday".

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate age if I was born on 29 February?
A leap-day birthday comes only once in four years. In other years, people usually treat 28 February or 1 March as the birthday, and official rules differ. For legal or exam purposes, follow the rule given for your form.
Can I calculate my age on a specific date?
Yes. Choose the date in the Age as on field to find your age on any date, such as an exam cut-off date. To find the difference between any two dates, use our Date Difference Calculator.
Why does another calculator show a slightly different result?
Calculators handle month-end dates differently, for example when you were born on the 31st and the end month has 30 days. The result can differ by a day or two. For official use, follow the method required by the authority.
Which age do insurers use?
Many insurers use either age last birthday (completed years) or age nearest birthday. Check your policy document.
Is my date of birth stored?
No. The calculation runs in your browser, and your date of birth is never sent to or stored on our server.
