What Is HTML Minification?
HTML minification removes characters that browsers do not need to display a page: comments, extra spaces, tabs and line breaks. The page looks the same, but the file is smaller, so it can download faster. Use it on production files and keep your original, readable source.
Need the same for styles and scripts? Try the CSS Minifier and the JavaScript Minifier.
How to Use the HTML Minifier
- Paste your HTML into the Original Code box.

Is My Code Private?
The minifier runs in your browser using JavaScript, and your code is not sent to our server. Still, avoid pasting API keys, passwords or other secrets into any online tool.
HTML Minifier Example
Before:
<!-- Main heading -->
<div class="card">
<h1>Hello</h1>
<p>
Welcome to my page.
</p>
</div>
After (typical output):
<div class="card"><h1>Hello</h1><p>Welcome to my page.</p></div>
Things to Check After Minifying
| Item | Why it matters |
|---|---|
<pre> and <textarea> | Spaces and line breaks inside them are part of the content. |
| Space between inline tags | A single space between two <span> tags is visible. Removing it can join words. |
| Conditional comments | Comments like <!--[if IE]> have a meaning for some old browsers. |
| Inline scripts | Line breaks and // comments inside scripts can change how they run. |
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What does the HTML Minifier do?
It removes comments, extra spaces, tabs and line breaks from your HTML to reduce the file size.
2. Will minifying break my HTML?
Usually not, but it can in some cases. Whitespace matters inside <pre> and <textarea>, and a single space between inline elements can be visible. Test your page after minifying and keep your original file.
3. Is my code private?
The tool runs in your browser and does not send your code to our server. Avoid pasting API keys or passwords into any online tool.
4. Can I get my original formatting back?
No. Minifying removes comments and spacing, so it cannot be reversed. Keep your original source file and minify only the production copy.
5. How is minification different from gzip?
Minification removes unnecessary characters from the file itself. Gzip or Brotli compress the file while it is sent to the browser. They work together, and using both gives the smallest download.
