What Is a PPF Calculator?
The Public Provident Fund (PPF) is a long-term savings scheme backed by the Government of India. It currently pays 7.1% a year, compounded yearly, for the Oct-Dec 2026 quarter. The government reviews the rate every quarter. The lock-in period is 15 years, and the interest and maturity amount are tax-free. A PPF calculator estimates your maturity amount, total interest and total investment, so you can plan for retirement or a long-term goal. PPF is available at post offices and authorised banks.
How to Use the PPF Calculator
- Enter your Yearly Investment. The minimum is ₹500 and the maximum is ₹1,50,000 per financial year.
- Enter the Time Period. The minimum is 15 years. After that, the account can be extended in blocks of 5 years.
- Check the Interest Rate. It is set to the current rate of 7.1%. Change it if the rate changes.
- Click Calculate PPF to see Total Invested, Total Interest and Maturity Amount.
PPF Calculation Formula
F = P × [((1 + i)n − 1) / i] × (1 + i)
Here F is the maturity amount, P is the yearly deposit, i is the yearly interest rate as a decimal (7.1% = 0.071) and n is the number of years. The extra (1 + i) assumes you deposit the full amount at the start of each year (before the 5th of April), which gives interest for the whole year. Real interest is calculated each month on the lowest balance between the 5th and the end of the month, so your actual maturity can differ slightly.
